Is there anything we can do to prevent wrinkles? In studying what causes wrinkles, my answer would unequivocally be, yes. In some cases, we can prolong the appearance of wrinkles.
Wrinkles have been called laugh lines or character lines. While they are an inevitable part of aging, much can be done to prevent or even prolong getting them. As we age, our skin thins out. It becomes drier and less elastic. Sagging and wrinkling happen when the connective tissue in our skin deteriorates. Some people seem to age faster than others and this is usually due to heredity and avoiding excessive sun exposure.
One of the things we can do to prevent wrinkling, is not smoke. People who smoke have more wrinkles. Have you ever noticed, usually in women, that smokers have many vertical lines on the upper lip. This comes from the constant movement of the mouth while puffing on the cigarette. Wrinkling of the skin is very much tied to smoking as it is an unhealthy practice all the way around. By not smoking from youth on, you can at least prevent that aspect of wrinkling later on in life.
I believe heredity plays the biggest part in our skin’s texture. Have you ever noticed that some people look youthful and when you meet their parents, they too, look younger. It works the same for people who have many deep wrinkles. Many times certain ethnic groups have skin that tolerates the sun better. Very fair skin tends to wrinkle more easily and I would recommend if you have fair skin to stay out of the sun or at least wear sun block on your face whenever going out. There is no doubt that sun causes wrinkles.
While it is good to get some exposure to the sun everyday, you can protect your face. We get Vitamin D from the sun. Fifteen minutes of sunshine is what is recommended to get enough Vitamin D daily to stay healthy.
Today, there are many serums and creams that may be helpful in treating fine lines. Technology has advanced and so we are learning much on what causes the deterioration of the skin and how to prevent wrinkles.
